    Customs Allowance

    On re-entering the European Union from the Channel Islands, the customs allowance is:

    • 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 250 grams of tobacco

    • 2 litres of still table wine

    • 1 litre of spirits or strong liqueurs over 22% volume or 2 litres of fortified wine, sparkling wine or other liqueurs

    • 60 cc/ml of perfume

    • 250 cc/ml of toilet water

    • £145 worth of other goods including gifts and souvenirs

    Tax Free Shopping

    Guernsey does not have Value Added Tax and therefore is a ‘low duty’ destination.  Particularly good value are; electrical goods, alcohol and tobacco as well as certain other retail items.


    Restrictions & Prohibitions

    Certain goods are restricted or prohibited (banned) to protect health and the environment.

    We cannot list all the goods involved but have listed some examples below.
     • Unlicensed drugs, such as heroin, morphine, cocaine, cannabis, amphetamines, barbiturates and LSD.
     • Offensive weapons, such as knuckledusters, swordsticks, belt buckle knives, push daggers, death stars, butterfly knives, telescopic truncheons, blowpipes, and flick knives.
     • Indecent and obscene material
     • Counterfeit and pirated goods.

    Certain other goods may be subject to Import and/or Export Licensing Controls and it is always wise to enquire before importing/exporting to ensure that there are no restrictions on the goods you propose to import/export.
