    Buses

The island's main bus station is situated at South Esplanade, just along from the Town Church. One company operate an island wide network, but check timetables carefully; many routes do not extend after the evening rush hour. There is also a shuttle service from the Airport.

    Car Hire & Parking

There are many car hire companies available on Guernsey, with rates that compare favourably with the United Kingdom. There is also an unlimited mileage allowance.

Visitors to Guernsey can hire cars at the Airport or Harbour on arrival. Cars can be delivered to hotels on request and can be ordered beforehand to await your arrival at the airport or Harbour.

In Guernsey parking is still free, but when parking in a time restricted "disc zone" area, you must use a parking clock. Hire vehicles have them but if you have brought your own vehicle you must go along to the Police station to obtain one. Clocks can also be obtained at many of the island's service stations or the Tourist Information Centre in St. Peter Port.

In town, there are half hour, one, two and three hour designated parking areas and it is important to display your time of arrival to avoid a parking ticket. Ten hour parking is available in town at Salerie Corner and at North Beach.

    Disabled
Disabled visitors to the island may park in any short-stay disc park for up to a maximum of two hours, and may use special parking places, provided they display a permit (disabled badge) issued in a participating European country, as well as a parking clock.

    Driving Tips & Regulations

    Driving is on the left.
Maximum speed limit is 35mph (56kph).

The Roads are narrow, there are special rules, and some signs may be totally unfamiliar to you. The Following information highlights the difference between driving in Guernsey and driving in the United Kingdom.

A yellow line across the exit of a minor road means STOP and give way to traffic on the major road.

Some junctions have FILTER IN TURN on a sign and Filter painted on the road. Approch them with care! At these junctions all directions have equal priority. You must only enter the junction in turn with other vehicles. They are also box junctions, so you must not enter the box unless your exit is clear.

The maximum speed limit in the island is 35 mph (56kph). There are lower speed limits in some areas. In and around St Peter Port the speed limit is 25 mph (40kph). Remember however, that these are maximum speeds, not recommended speeds, and in many places much lower speeds are necessary for safe driving.

    Documentation
A full national driving licence is required.

Coach hire for large parties is also available.
